Hi every body. I would like to say thank you very much in advance for reading this tutorial and sorry for my bad English. If you would like to learn some basic animation technique in maya then this tutorial may help you. In this tutorial I am going to discus the simplest way to accomplish the reciprocating engine mechanism in Maya with using simple expressions and constrains.

Click here to watch this movie.The mechanism of reciprocating engine has been used in IC engine ( internal combustion engines ) and thermal engines.The reciprocating motion of block piston is converted to rotary motion of the crank shaft with the help of connecting rod. But what I have written in This tutorial is not the real life IC engine. But we can achieve any advance level of mechanism in Maya with using Expressions and constrains

 

Step: 1

For completing this tutorial we need to download these essential engine parts.

The geometric parameters of the piston cylinder are represented bellow.

Open CRANKSHAFT_v1.mb. from the downloaded folder.

After make it invisible you can find three lines. These are the axis. I am going to put some locators on the midpoint of each line. For this we need to create the mid points.
